Now in it’s seventh year of operation, the annual Bramble Bay and Charles S Snow Combined Districts As always to encourage participitation we ignite the players imaginations by telling a story in advance of the game. So, the story goes :“The Dialapizzas are changing time so they can personally benefit from the changes in the future. Doctor Whereami, Time Lord of the Wavell Galaxy, has corrected time whenever he detects a disturbance in the space time continuum caused by these evil Time Bandits. The Doctor has been captured by his malicious adversaries, and without any correction, time is now just so wrong ! Imagine not being born …………..how sad is that!Using his Sonic Transmitter, the Doctor has broadcast a secret message calling upon his young trainee Time Lord Doctors for help.As the Doctor’s trusted trainees your Patrol is on a mission to find and save Doctor Whereami from the Dialapizzas. In your journey you must pass through a number of Time Zones before you can find the Doctor. Each Time Zone requires your Patrol to deploy Scout skills …..but beware of the Dialapizzas – don’t let them catch you! “Completion of tasks at all Time Zones enabled Patrols access to the Black Hole , whereupon after decrypting a code , entiltled them passage to the secret location of Dr Whereami. In addtion to receiving the story by a promotional Flyer, both Youth and Leaders were encouraged to go the website at www.widegame.info to read the Doctor’s Travel Blogg . The Blogg, gave Scouts vital clues about what skills may be deployed at the Time Zones.Scout Patrols as the TimeTravellors were intercepted by Venturers Teams acting as the evil Dialapizzas and the Rovers as Time Police kept all players in line by enforcing the rules of the game. Time Zones were attended by Leaders.Overall, I am pleased that the event achieved it’s main purpose. As I did my rounds, I observed all Youth sections were actively engaged and interacting well. Behaviour across all Youth Sections was excellent. Leader’s behaviour was jovial to say the least, yet amongst all the laughter and carrying on, they seriously delivered their Time Zone's activities to a high standard. As a bonus, it was great to see the Rovers wanting to take more control over the activity, so much so, that they introduced their own form of Krypto currency into the game - White Stone..........yes, a mischievously bold step, but happy to say these unplanned nuances add spice to the mix.Congratulations to Aspley’s Danny Dorito Patrol who were the first to find Dr Whereami. Special commendation to Dingo Patrol from Wavell Heights who despite their small Patrol of only two members, soldiered on to be in the top three Patrols that successfully passed through the Black Hole and located the Doctor.A highlight for me was such a simple gesture but yet touched me deeply - a young Gordon Park Scout by the name of James, approached me at the end of the night and in his quietly spoken manner said, " Hi Dunnart, I want to thank you for tonight's Wide Game ". That's it...........nothing more, nothing less, and with those few words all that hard work, frustration, loss of sleep and back strain suddenly took a back seat.Joe “Dunnart” ReitanoAssistant Region Commissioner – ScoutsScout Association of AustraliaQueensland Branch Inc.Brisbane North RegionMobile : 0438 3265 73
