2026 - Kedron Scout Den

Theme and backstory

The Wrap
This year’s Wide Game event was held on Friday night 5 June 2026 at the Kedron Scout Den and adjacent Mercer Pak. It was attended by 161 Scouts, 15 Venturers, 10 Rovers and 20 odd Leaders.
As always, the laughter, intense energy from beginning to end, and the smiling faces on final parade sums up how successful the night was. This year’s theme was based on the true story of the natorious Australian Bushranger, Captain Starlite. The setting was 1880 . Following his public hanging at Darlighurst Prison , fellow inmates who had received a King’s Pardon, formed gangs with the intention of finding Captain Starlites hidden treasure. As noted in the promotional flyer:
This is the story of a team of bushrangers searching for hidden loot and the road they must travel to find it.........visiting churches, banks and prisons, talking to settlers, freeman and townsfolk........all whilst avoiding the long arm of the law.
Leading up to the event, eight news articles were released weekly for all players to read. The articles were written by the Crime Correspondent of the time, Archiboldo Giuseppe Garibaldi , also known as Archie Bald by his pen name. The aim of the articles was to stir enthusiasm for the event and also give players a hint of what activities were in store on the game night.

Players

Scouts, in their Patrols, played the pardoned prison gangs , travelling to 6 different locations where they would undertake tasks in return for a piece of a map. After attending all of the 6 locations , the assembled map pieces would guide them to the location of the lost treasure. Venturers, as the honest townsfolk, ran the six Activity bases where Captain Moonlite left pieces of his treasure map . Gangs would pay a Gold Coin( not a bribe ) and undertake community service ( a Scout Skill based task ) in exchange for a piece of the map. The locations were noted on their King’s Pardon Document thus:
Rovers, assisted in a number of areas including the final destination where hey checked that the gangs had successfully completed the tasks at all 6 activity locations and had all 6 pieces of the map. Rovers then gave the Gangs a riddle which when solved led them to where the treasure was hidden. Adult Leaders, being the interruptive element, played the Mounted Police . They waylayed the gangs and interrogated them by seeking answers to questions based on the various news articles written by the Journalist , Archie Bald. A small team of Adult Leaders also ran the Jail for naughty Scouts sent there by the Mounted Police.
The Locations and their respective tasks are summarised below
